It's a trope near and dear to our hearts. Arranged marriage.

Maybe it's for the family. Maybe it's for a friend. Maybe you know the person and have been expected to marry them for years. Maybe it's the wedding day and you have no clue who it is you'll be tied to for your natural life. Maybe you've been married a while, and you're just now starting your life, away from the expectations of others. Or maybe, the "others" are watching, waiting, making sure this marriage sticks.

Reasons:

1. Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
2. Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
3. Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
4. Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
6. Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
8. Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
7. Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.

Scenario:

1. First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse.
2. Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates.
3. Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending).
4. Wedding day → The big day!
5. Reception → The big party!
6. Wedding night → Every meme needs a smut prompt, right?
7. Honeymoon → Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there?
8. Been at this a while → Just starting to get to know the other person

They'll have to be careful around the mansion because there are some who might take it to mean that he's not as deadly as he is and get them hurt, but he'll keep his ring on him for Kitty.

He kisses the top of her head. This is nice. Oh, he likes the sex, but the quiet moments are what he really cherishes.

Glancing up at him, she smiles. Then she places a gentle kiss on his chest, over his heart, before snuggling a little more against him.

He chuckles, and drags the blanket over them. They get about eight and a half more hours before he has to take the ring off. That's okay, though. It will be okay. Shifting, he rolls up on his hip, and pulls her against him. He loves the feeling of her stretched out along his height.

She smiles, more than happy to settle in against him. Despite how quickly they had become so intimate, Kitty was finding more and more that she didn't really mind.

He strokes his fingers along her shoulder, just thinking. He's been starved for physical affection for a long time. His power just didn't allow him to even get a casual hug. Everything had to be plotted out, and carefully calculated so no one lost hair or a limb. The only person who could be careless with him was and is. Josh is always willing to touch Kevin, if he needs it. Hell, Logan's had Josh smack Kevin in the back of the head for being stupid.

But now... now he has a wife. A wife that'll expect all those little things that he can't do - quick good-bye kisses, a random hug while he's working in the forge - and all he'll be is a disappointment for her. Is it even fair to do this? Rogue, who is also weirdly immune to his power and he to hers, might have been a better choice, but he understands why she hadn't been chosen. But still. To marry him off to someone as sweet and kind as Kitty seems? He'll just make her bitter.

He huffs out a sigh and holds her closer. There's a lot of thoughts swirling through his mind. And none of them are the greatest. He's learned over the years to curb his most self-destructive ones, but times like this always bring them out. Josh would've already smacked him one, knowing what he's thinking. But he just holds his wife, not speaking them into existence. He can give her that peace.

She feels the sigh more than she hears it, and it pulls her out of her sleepy doze. Glancing up at him, she notices the deep frown that seems set in his features.

"Is everything okay?" she asks softly.

He pulls her close. "Yeah, everything's fine." He whispers, not wanting to disturb her too much with his thoughts. Sharing them with Josh was one thing, as was sharing them with Sooraya. But, sharing them with Kitty? No, she deserves better so that's what he's going to give her.

She frowns a bit, propping herself up on her elbow to see him better.

"Kevin, we're married now," she reminds him softly. "Whatever you're worried about, is my problem too. You don't have to keep secrets from me."

"I'm not, I promise." He says, knowing she's right. "Just some thoughts better left unspoken." He promises her. He doesn't want to burden his wife. She doesn't deserve the extra burden that is his mental health issues. Really, he just wants to sit and stew in his thoughts.

She's still frowning, but settles back against him anyway. After another moment, though, she says, "You know you can talk to me, right? And...I'm not saying you have to tell me everything. But whenever you want...I'm here to listen."

Because that's probably all she really can do.

He can tell she's still frowning. He takes a deep breath. He'd thought he'd never tell anyone but Josh and Sooraya. She's a sister to him and he'd been dating Josh for a while. Well, until Josh lost his mind and decided he wanted to date Alex Summers.

But she deserves to know; she's his wife, now. Warts and all. "I tried to commit suicide, a couple years ago." He murmurs. "Prof knows, Josh found me and healed me, Sooraya knows. Beyon them and Scott Summers, no one else needed to." He figures better to start with the background. "Sometimes... havin' this power drags on me. Especially when I'm with someone. And those thoughts start all over again. Just takes me a while to remember that I'm not that much of a coward."

She takes in a sharp breath, glancing up at him. Even though he said that no one else needed to know, to never have suspected anything, even after living together in the mansion for so long...

"Is...there anything I can do?" She isn't sure what else to even say about something like this. But if there was a way to help, she would do so.

He rolls up on his hip, and kisses her. "Honestly? You're doin' it." He admits. "Having someone warm and stretched out against me, helps. Knowing there's someone who doesn't think me a freak, helps."

He's not telling her all of it, she doesn't need burdened with all that, but this is the bulk of it. Who cares about the miniscule details?

She does, but she takes him at his word for now. With a small smile, she nods. "Okay. Just...let me know if there's anything else I can do, okay? Even if I can't exactly do it, I'd like to try."

He smiles a bit crookedly. "Well, when I was dating Josh, he would smack me in the back of my head, if I started brooding too much." He teases. Oh, Josh still does it on occasion. But he's not really wanting her to take up the habit.

"Sooraya throws things at me." Shoes are her favorite, since they're easily accessible.

"So, as long as you keep the violence down, I think we'll be alright." He teases, booping her on the nose.

She can't help a small laugh. "Guess I'll have to figure out my own way to pull you out of it."

He chuckles. "Well, let's hope it's less violent." He says dryly. "But, it's gotten better." He says, softly. "My therapist has helped a lot. She knows I'm a mutant and doesn't mind." He drops another kiss on Kitty's nose. "Get some sleep. We've got Disney in the morning. And if you're really good, I'll make something for breakfast, depending on the supplies that were laid in.

She smiles. "That's good. I'm glad you have help."

With another giggle, she nods. "Sounds like something to look forward to."
